Junior Rowers from Ardingly swapped our Lake for the River Medway in Maidstone last weekend.
It was more than a usual race day, however, as it was also the selection event for rowers to represent our region in April at a prestigious National Regatta
We came away with a win for our Girls J14 double scull and a good number of 2nd and 3rd places.
Our J15 Girls in the coxed quad beat older girls from other clubs which was a real coup.
Coach Wolfgang Weis commented, “I am really proud of their achievements, it is great that so many of them performed in a manner which convinced the selectors, including coaches from other clubs who saw them race, that the Regional team would benefit from their involvement.”
As a result of these outstanding performances, Ardingly athletes have been asked to present four crews for the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta to be held at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham. This event forms the first step on the rowing pathway to national representation.
On the national stage, our Women’s squad took part in the 75th Women's Eights Head of the River Race on Saturday.
This is raced over the Championship course from Mortlake to Putney with 2700 other women rowers including the current GB squad.
As we don’t have an 8-oared boat at Ardingly in which to train this is always a challenging race, and we are proud they finished around half-way through the 300 crews of competitors!
