MAIDSTONE RACE SUCCESSES

Ardingly Junior rowers achieved two 1sts, two 2nds and three 3rd place finishes in their first race of 2016.

Top honours on the day went to our youngest competitors, 13 year old Millie W who won in her single scull and then won again in a double scull with Anna C, also 13. Both Junior Girls' coxed quadruple sculls, one of 13 year olds and one of 15/16 year olds gained second places. Third places went to our 15/16 year old boys and girls all of whom beat crews of 17 and 18 year olds.

Anna and Millie in particular impressed Selectors for our Region's squad for the National Junior Inter-Regional regatta next month so they look certain to be invited to race there. We are hoping that solid performances from others across our crews will see them called up too.

Ardingly Rowing Club has a great reputation for Club-spirit and the young rowers and their parents cheered each other on across the 4 racing divisions despite it being a freezing cold day.

They raced on the River Medway at Maidstone where the natural bends on the course were a significant challenge compared to rowing on the reservoir at Ardingly. Happily their next two events are on multi-lane rowing lakes more suited to our athletes who go very fast in a straight line!
