Senior Ladies Squad

Ardingly Rowing Club's Women's competition squad has enjoyed a period of growth and development over the last five years. The squad includes a mixture of 'home grown' talent and experienced oarswomen who have rowed at university and other clubs before joining Ardingly. We have crews racing regularly at Novice, IM3 and IM2, Masters A, B and C in both sculling and sweep-oar events.

In recent seasons the squad has competed at the Womens' Head of the River Race, the Veteranís Eights Head, the British Masters' Championships and Henley Veteranís Regatta, in addition to a range of local regattas and head races.

The Squad has two full time coaches and is well equipped with access to a dedicated Coxed Four, two Coxless Quads, at least four Double Sculls and up to six Single Sculls for our regular training sessions.

The geography of other rowing clubs gives us a huge potential catchment area, approximately bounded by the M25 and the south coast. Our location is very easy to reach from Haywards Heath, Crawley, East Grinstead, Horsham and the south coast. Ardingly reservoir is ideal for rowing with about 1400 metres available and a large hill sheltering it from the prevailing south westerly winds.

The squad follows a training programme based on five sessions per week, with a mixture of coached sessions and personal sessions giving a high degree of flexibility to fit around member's work and domestic commitments. Within a few minutes of the reservoir we have access to a converted building housing 7 Concept II ergometers and these are available at most times.

In the winter coaching is provided at two of the sessions, namely Saturdays and Sundays, with both weekend sessions on the water starting at 9.15 am. In the summer this changes to four coached water sessions.

The competition squad welcomes all new members, including those who have previous rowing experience and those who have progressed through our own development group. Those who are completely new to the sport and are keen to compete are initially coached separately under the direction of the womenís squad coaches.
