Marlow Regatta

On Monday 6th May, six members of the Women’s Squad travelled into the Thames Valley to compete at Marlow Spring Regatta. In the three-lane final of WNov 2x, Abi and Rachel were very competetive, closing rapidly on their more powerful but technically less proficient and fading opposition from Maidenhead and Burway RC, in the last minute of the race. Their efforts were not enough to secure a win, but they crossed the line only half a length down on Burway

The WMasC 4x of Jo, Sarah, Linda and Nicola were edged out of a place in the final by a mere foot by Henley Rowing Club, despite experiencing a clash of blades with Marlow Rowing Club which made it necessary to stop rowing at the half-way mark.

Race Preparation Day – Ardingly Reservoir

On Sunday 21st April, Ardingly Rowing Club organised a morning of racing for members of the Senior Women, Intermediate and Junior Squads. Over thirty members of the club took the opportunity to gain regatta experience, learning the procedures that govern racing at open events whilst enjoying close racing on the reservoir

Racing took place in two waves, allowing crews to change between waves and individuals to race up to six times. In near perfect conditions, crews both male and female, ranging in age from J14 to Masters C, took part in multi-lane racing over the 1000m course. At the end of the morning, Junior members of the club were rewarded for their efforts with a ‘rowing themed’ coffee mug, kindly donated by ‘Rock the Boat’.

The fastest performance of the day for the Women’s Squad was the W IM3 4+ of Sarah, Janet, Nicola and Megan, coxed by David B, completing the course in 10:32; 18 seconds behind Lea Rowing Club who won the trophy for the fastest women’s crew in the event. Hugo sculled twice; J15 1x (11:56) and J16 1x (12:57), the strong headwind in the afternoon accounting for at least some of the time difference between the two rows.
