25th April - race Preparation

On Sunday 25th April members of Ardingly took part in a race preparation morning on the reservoir.

It was brilliant to see members of the club practice together, in friendly competition, ranging from juniors to senior ladies and competition squad. Doubles and singles alike raced the 900m course several times during the morning, showing a high level of skill and determination and everyone who took part should be proud of their success.

As juniors, we felt that we particularly benefited from the preparation as for us and other juniors it will be our first regatta on the 9th May at Eton rowing club.

We would like to wish everyone the best of luck and would like to thank Tim Lucas and David Clark for organising the event, we all had a fantastic morning

Megan and Anna.

Junior Inter-Regional Trials - The Royal Docks, 2010

On 14th March 2010 four Ardingly J15 Scullers wnet to The Royal Docks to compete for the regional team. On arrival we found that the elements were against us, so the training session was cancelled. Straight away, we started a head-like race, over a 1000 metre course. Patrick in a J15 Single Scull did very well and achieved the fastest time in the first division. During his race, there was a panic on the Docks as the Boat Club had run out of double scull boats.

This was a problem as we were due to borrow their boat for the next division! However, the Bewl Bridge boys double kindly lent us their boat. Conditions were rough but gave us an advantage over Maidstone. We feel we raced well, but unfortunately were beaten into second place by Bewl Bridge girls. Patrick raced again with Jonty in a double and again came first. After racing, a bacon sandwich finished off the day.
